If you look on the internet, you will find thousands of articles on the health benefits of Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil. For thousands of years, Olive Oil has been used in the Mediterranean regions of the world in cooking and in medicine.  Hundreds medical research studies have sighted the benefits for human health when consuming Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil over other types of oils and fats. We know it’s good for but what about your Havanese friend. Is there befits for them? The answer is YES!

1.       Healthy Brain Development.  In both humans and animals, the brain is about 60% fats. Both babies and havanese puppies need high fat intake for healthy brain development. Without the proper amount of fat, the brain will not grow properly. Olive oil is a great source of fats that the brain needs to develop.

2.       Promotes Healthy Joints. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is excellent for your joints. It contains many beneficial  characteristics but the 2 big benefits from EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) for joint health is  polyphenols and Vitamin E. Both are excellent, strong antioxidants. These help to prevent oxidative damage to joints and also other cell damage in the body. Another study at the Mayo Clinic found that EVOO is also an excellent anti-inflammatory and 2 table spoons of EVOO can be as effective in reducing inflammation and joint pain as 200 mg of ibuprofen without the risk of intestinal bleeding or liver damage.

3.       An Excellent Beauty Treatment. EVOO when consumed helps to promote healthy skin and hair. I take it to a new level with our Havanese . When bath time comes up, we add 2 ounces of EVOO to our favorite hair conditioner and it creates a SUPER MOISTERIZER! Even the driest Havanese coat will look shiny and sleek with just a little EVOO added

4.       Add oil, lose weight.  Is your little Havanese pup grown in to fuzzy round fur ball? Adding EVOO to his or her food will help to promote weight loss. The fat structure in EVOO is what is called monounsaturated fatty acids or MUFA. This type of fat is a curved cell structure that does not bind together causing fat build in the body and in the blood stream. It helps to break down bad fat, lowers bad cholesterol  and helps to rev up the bodies metabolism,. All these combined, help your over-weight Havanese  to loss and control weight gain.

5.       A great treat! As Tony the Tiger would say” It Tastes Greaaaat.” The same bowl of kibble every night can be pretty boring. Add a tablespoon of EVOO and WOW! It a great treat for your Havanese.

Being a Havanese Breeder for the past 10 years, I am always looking for ways to help keep our Havanese happy and healthy. I always feed our Havanese puppies and Havanese adults the highest quality food I can find and make sure they get the exercise they need to stay healthy. Picking a great puppy name.

One of the first question many people ask us when picking out their new havanese puppy is "Can we change it's name". The answer is always YES!
When naming your new puppy, we always suggest picking a name for your puppy that you want. Choosing a puppy name can be as simple or as difficult as naming a new baby. I always suggest consider these 3 factors.
1. Your Family. Pick a name that everyone likes. If you have kids. let the little people in your home be part the process. This will help everyone to feel that the share in their new Havanese puppy.
2. Your puppies personality. Pick a name that matches your puppies personality. find a name that is fun and fits your new baby.
3. Make sure that it does not sound like another family members name! If you have a son named Tom, I would avoid Don. Names that are to close will cause confussion for everyone!

With every litter of puppies that we have, we always will have at least one or two families that will adopt a pair of puppies instead of a single puppy. Many times it will be because the Havanese are so cute it is impossible to choose only one puppy. Sometimes it will be because the husband wants a boy and the wife will want a girl. Every family is different and every reason is different, but the results are always the same.

We always try to keep in contact with our havanese families and love to get feedback from their experiences with the havanese. So far every family that has adopted puppies in pairs have always gave us the same feedback. "2 are easier than 1". When I hear this I always ask them why and the same 3 main reasons always the answers.

Transition: When a new puppy comes into your home, there is a transition period for both the puppy and the family. The puppy is away from it's mother and litter mates for the first time. Also the puppy is away from the people that it has been around for all of it's 8 weeks of life and it can be a a very scary and nervous time for your new family member. When a puppy makes this move with a brother or sister, this transition time is almost non-existant.

Training: The Havanese are a very intelligent breed and they learn not only from their families but also from each other. When we have new litters at our home, we have noticed that havanese will follow each other. When we pad training, as soon as one puppy learns to use the wee wee pads, the others will all start to follow and do the same. It is funny to watch the puppies in the morning all run to the potty area. Also when you have 2 puppies and you are teaching them tricks or behaviors, they will watch each other and learn from each other

Separation Anxiety: Almost all breeds experience some separation anxiety. Sometimes when coming into new homes, sometimes when left alone at home while the family is at work, at school or even just out shopping. The havanese is no exception. Alone a havanese can be bored or lonely. By having a brother or sister in the home, this anxiety is eliminated and you have a happier puppies.

In conclusion, the havanese is a great dog and one havanese will always make your life happier and better. But how could a dog breed that is so loving, happy and beautiful not bring twice the joy when living with you in pairs?

With so many breeds of pure breed dogs and even more "Designer Dogs" why do people choose the Havanese? Until you have spent some time with a Havanese, it can be something that is hard to understand. But I assure you once you spend an hour with one of these great dogs, you are hooked.
The Havanese is a very unique breed not only in appearance, but also in personality. The appearance of the Havanese can be a combination of colors ranging from pure whites, creams, golds, chocolates, reds, greys, blues and blacks. The eyes are generally large and alert without having that "buggy" appearance that many small breeds may have. You will see them with uncut coats to being styled in puppy cuts. No matter the color or the coat style, the havanese is unmistakably one of the most beautiful and just darn cute breeds you will meet. BUT THE PERSONALITY....
Above all things that make the Havanese enduring to the people that meet these little dogs, is the Havanese's personality. It is unlike any dog you have ever met. The Havanese has one purpose in it's life and that is to please it's human. The Havanese have been known to go to a food dish, pick up a mouthful of food and bring it in and place it by it's human's chair and eat. Why? Because it wants to be near you at all times. Our girl Missi is most content when she is sitting next to my head when I am reading in my LazyBoy . Lucy always has to sit next to Yuying when she is in our kitchen. Cloe always finds a way to get under the blankets with my daughter. It is a breed that loves to be loved. I have many of our havanese families, especially with women tell us the bond that their male havanese will make is even more special. We also see this with our boy Cause and with our boy puppies. "Female havanese will love you, Male havanese puppies will FALL IN LOVE with you.!" We see this often in the way that Cause wants Yuying to just notice him. When she is outside, Cause will dance and spring around the yard. He runs to her, wants her to play and always wants attention from her. When in the house he will sit and watch her no matter what she is doing. If she moves, he is up and following. He is in Love!
